# What a listing shows and what it leaves out

Lesson 1 of [Read an ADHD evaluation listing: the basics](https://adhdevaluations.fyi/academy/adhd-evaluation-listing-basics.md), 11 minutes.

A listing on this directory is a record of a clinician who practices at a public address. It helps you start a search. It does not tell you whom to pick.

## Where the data comes from

Most listings come from the CMS NPI Registry. The registry records where a clinician practices, a phone number and the credentials the clinician published. Some providers are listed because a page on their own website says they offer ADHD evaluation. For those, the site keeps the link to the page and one short quote.

## What the registry does not say

The registry names a specialty. It does not say which services a provider offers. It has no prices, no wait times and no insurance details. This site leaves those fields empty until a clinic claims its listing and fills them in. Read an empty field as unknown. It does not mean free, zero or none.

## A listing is not a recommendation

The site records providers. It does not endorse them. A listing does not show that a provider is taking new patients or sees people in your area. Call and ask.

## Registry entry and licence

The registry enumerates a provider. It is not the register of the body that regulates the profession. Check the licensing board for the profession in the state where the provider practices. Its register shows the licence and its status.
